2 tons of marijuana disguised as lettuce intercepted at South Texas border

Customs and Border Protection agents seized some suspicious greenery in a massive South Texas border bust last week.

Nearly two tons of marijuana masquerading as lettuce was confiscated Monday when authorities flagged a tractor trailer waiting to cross the Colombia-Solidarity International Bridge in Laredo.

After a drug dog noticed something amiss with the faux veggies, authorities uncovered 5,754 packages containing more than 3,700 pounds of pot valued at roughly $740,000, according to a press release.

Border Patrol seized the drugs and turned the case over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement for further investigation.

“This is truly an example of our CBP officers’ hard work, experience and dedication to the CBP mission,” Port Director Gregory Alvarez said in a statement.

“I congratulate the officers in advancing the CBP mission and protecting the public from illegal narcotics.”
