The list of towns in New Jersey saying no to recreational marijuana just keeps growing, and there are now at least 30 municipalities across the state that have either banned marijuana businesses or officially voiced opposition to legal weed.
And that’s before there’s even a legalization bill on the table.
NJ Cannabis Insider reported on Thursday that lawmakers plan to have a recreational marijuana bill, and a medical marijuana expansion, ready for introduction by the end of August.
Each legal weed bill dropped so far has allowed towns to ban marijuana businesses from within their borders, though they wouldn’t be able to collect any tax revenue from legal weed.

Expect more to come
Several towns, including Seaside Heights and Toms River, were considering marijuana bans earlier this year, but decided to table them until more information was available. Expect those towns to revisit such ordinances if a recreational marijuana bill passes.
So far, officials in only four towns have officially said they would want marijuana businesses. Those are Asbury Park, Atlantic City, Jersey City and Trenton.
