Two young men from Waynoka are facing felony drug charges in Woods County.
Jalen Issac Slater, 19, and Colton Douglas Reuss, 18, have been charged with distribution of controlled dangerous substance (marijuana) while within 2,000 feet of a school. This crime is punishable by imprisonment for four years to life or a fine of up to $40,000, or both.
According to court documents, on July 12 while on patrol Waynoka Police Officer Misty Smiley saw four vehicles take off quickly from the tennis courts located at Broadway Street and Yadon Dr. She turned around in the entrance to the school ag barn and went west on Broadway.
She passed the four vehicles coming south on Yadon as she drove west. She pulled into the school baseball field entrance and parked. She recognized three of the vehicles and their drivers as Ruess, Slater and Gabriel Delgado. The fourth vehicle was being driven with no headlights on.
Smiley conducted a traffic stop on the fourth vehicle, a Dodge pickup driven by Kristopher Sittingdown. He handed her a baggie with a green leafy substance that she recognized as marijuana. After advising Sittingdown of his Miranda rights, she questioned him. He told her he had purchased marijuana from Reuss and Slater for $100 at the tennis courts, and the three of them smoked some weed.
On July 17 while patrolling, Smiley made contact with Reuss and Slater at the Waynoka tennis courts again. They were found to be in possession of marijuana, were both arrested and charged.
