PLANTATION KEY, Fla. – A Miami man accused of speeding and driving without a valid license left his marijuana in the back seat of a Florida Keys deputy’s patrol car, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
Victor Yanez, 21, was speeding in a Mercedes-Benz near mile marker 89 Sunday afternoon when a deputy attempted a traffic stop.
After the deputy stopped the car, he saw the driver get into the back seat and the passenger get into the driver’s seat, sheriff’s spokeswoman Becky Herrin said.
As he spoke with Yanez through the open car window, the deputy could smell marijuana coming from the car.
Herrin said Yanez admitted that he didn’t have a driver’s license, and the passenger said she only got into the driver’s seat to help Yanez out.
After Yanez was handcuffed and taken to jail, the deputy searched his back seat as part of his routine after transporting a suspect and found a plastic bag with marijuana inside, Herrin said.
Yanez faces multiple charges, including driving with a suspended license, resisting arrest and marijuana possession.
