Trump confidante Roger Stone has been removed from the speaker’s list at an upcoming cannabis conference after he drew criticism for inappropriate and racist tweets.
Cannabis World Congress & Business Expo released a statement that Stone was removed as a speaker “following collaborative discussions with numerous partners, participants, and interested parties who support the legalization of cannabis in an inclusive manner.”
Stone is a supporter and informal adviser to Trump, in addition to being an ardent supporter of marijuana legalization.
The statement said Stone would be replaced, but no alternative speaker was provided.
“The forums created by CWCBExpo are crucial to the growth and legalization of the cannabis industry and they supersede the distractions that have surrounded the events,” the statement said.
A Change.org petition was circulated requesting the removal of Stone as a speaker.
“Inviting Mr. Stone to speak to the crowd, especially as we see the rise of overt racism and anti-Semitism, is an affront to the very movement you purport to promote, the industry and all who are involved,” the petition said.
