A mother was charged with chemical endangerment of a child Monday after her infant daughter tested positive for marijuana, authorities said.
Decatur police said 22-year-old Shimar Reynolds gave birth to a baby girl on July 17 at Decatur Morgan Hospital Parkway Campus. Police said Reynolds’ child tested positive for marijuana at the time of birth, which prompted an investigation a joint investigation involving the Morgan County Department of Human Resources and police assisted with the investigation.
During that time, authorities learned Reynolds was fully aware she was pregnant when she smoked marijuana. A warrant was obtained for her arrest on Oct. 6. She was placed in Morgan County Jail on a $2,500 bond.
