NORTH HAMPTON, N.H. —New Hampshire State Police arrested a Maine man for marijuana possession after finding about 21 pounds of the drug in his car.
A trooper stopped Jakob Lemieux, 27, of Sidney, on Monday afternoon on Interstate 95 in North Hampton.
The stop was for a moving violation, police said.
The trooper found 21 pounds of marijuana in the trunk of the car, police said.
Lemieux was arrested on charges of possession of a controlled drug with intent to distribute.
The charge, with a marijuana quantity of more than 5 pounds, carries a maximum punishment of 20 years in prison and a fine of no more than $300,000, according to New Hampshire law.
Earlier this year, New Hampshire lawmakers gave the OK to move ahead with legalizing the recreational use of marijuana.
