A snowbird found with marijuana in his golf cart in January at the Santiago Postal Station learned his punishment in a sentencing hearing last week.
George M. Nyman, 65, of Green Bay, Wis., was spotted Jan. 26 standing next to his golf cart when a Sumter County sheriff’s deputy noticed foil on the seat of the golf cart containing what appeared to be marijuana. At first, Nyman attempted to deny that it was marijuana. But he later admitted he had obtained the marijuana from a friend on his way to Florida. He said he smokes it to help him sleep. He had a total of 13 grams of marijuana in the golf cart, according to the arrest report.
Last week in Sumter County Court, Nyman pleaded no contest to a charge of possession of marijuana. He has been placed on six months probation and ordered to perform 20 hours of community service.
