LATEST Botched ‘420’ marijuana deal in Lake Worth ends in gunfire

An unsatisfied customer was at the wrong end of his marijuana dealer’s gun last month, Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office records state.

The customer told deputies he called Enrique Sobrino III the evening of April 20 — 4/20, a holiday of sorts for those who consume marijuana — to purchase the drug.

When Sobrino, whom the man knows as “Alex,” showed up to the man’s Lake Worth home, though, the potential customer was unhappy with the marijuana’s quality, so he refused to buy it.

Surveillance-camera footage from the home on Park Street, just north of 22nd Avenue North and west of South Dixie Highway, shows Sobrino, 24, put a Nissan SUV into drive and pull away from the house. The Acreage man stopped not far from the house and the two men continued arguing.

The man told deputies Sobrino pointed a gun at him and fired at least one shot. As Sobrino fired a shot, he reportedly promised the man he’d be back.

No one was injured in the shooting.

The man found a spent .38 caliber casing in the road, and deputies spotted what appeared to be a bullet hole in a neighbor’s palm tree. Neighbors told authorities they heard what sounded like a gunshot or two at about dinner time that evening.

Surveillance footage from the man’s home shows him walk into the house after the alleged shooting and return with a baseball bat. He called a relative, he said, who advised him to call authorities. The man was hesitant, he said, because the shooting stemmed from a marijuana transaction.

Sobrino was arrested Monday on aggravated assault and weapon-related charges. He is being held in the Palm Beach County Jail on a $15,000 bond.

Court records show he is a convicted felon who has pleaded guilty to other drug-related offenses in the last five years.
