LANSING (WKZO AM/FM) — A group seeking the legalization of marijuana in Michigan has filed petition language with the Secretary of State.
The Coalition to Regulate Marijuana like Alcohol builds on the efforts and legislation already in place to reform Medical Marijuana. It calls for a sharp division of labor, and regulatory and testing programs.
Spokesman Josh Hovey says tax revenue from sales would go to schools, roads and local communities that support marijuana related businesses.
A resident would still have to be 21 or older to possess marijuana, but no more than 2.5 ounces in public and 10 ounces at home.
Individuals would be allowed to grow up to 12 plants.
There would be laws against smoking it in public and driving under the influence would be against the law.
The group has set a goal of $8 million to fund the signature collection effort and the campaign to convince voters to pass it.
They hope to put the question on the November 2018 ballot.
