Alaska’s marijuana industry has accumulated more than $1 million dollars in taxes.
The Associated Press reports that Commercial sales of marijuana began last year in October.
The taxes account through the month of May, meaning that in 8 months the industry WILL HAVE EARNED over $1 million dollars in tax revenue.
This is significantly less than the predicted $2 million dollars that The Department of Revenue thought would be created at this point, but officials say sales are about to increase.
According to Kelly Mazzei of the department’s tax division, outdoor growing operations have not yet made their first harvest.
She believes we might see a soar in the state’s tax revenue at that point.
So far, Alaska’s retail stores have purchased 289 pounds of marijuana from state farms.
According to Tax Division statistics, Fairbanks is the marijuana farming capital of Alaska.
