Pennsylvania still has a budget problem. One obvious way to help is to legalize and tax marijuana.
But the problem is with our prudish elected officials believing they know better than doctors or their constituents. They would say: “Oh my, legalizing pot might make people too happy. We can’t have that. Excessive happiness is sinful.”
Meanwhile states where marijuana is legal rake in millions (Colorado, $200 million in 2016) in revenue avoiding the need for raising taxes on others all while reducing the heavy cost of incarcerations. But then, with all that private prison lobby money sloshing around, it’s tough to do the right thing. Or is it?
