D’Onta Foreman’s attorney said Friday the Texans rookie running back has tested negative for marijuana use.
University of Texas police arrested Foreman on July 16 in Austin for unlawful carrying of weapons and possession of marijuana. Foreman’s attorney, Chip Lewis, had vowed after the arrest that Foreman would take a urinalysis showing he was clean.
“The lab has returned D’Onta’s results,” Lewis told the Chronicle. “He is crystal clean, everything negative for any illicit drugs, marijuana, absolutely nothing.
“It illustrates what D’Onta has said since his arrest that he was not smoking marijuana. He did not possess marijuana. It makes it clear that he was telling the truth. He was not using marijuana.”
After his arrest, Lewis issued a statement to the NFL Network saying the marijuana belonged to a passenger in Foreman’s vehicle. He also noted that the “legal handgun was recently purchased by D’Onta and registered in his name. The handgun was properly secured inside of his vehicle as required by Texas law.”
Lewis told the Chronicle he expects charges against Foreman will be dropped.
Foreman rushed for 2,028 yards and 15 touchdowns as a junior last season at Texas, winning the Doak Walker Award as the nation’s top running back. The Texans selected him in the third round.
