At the 53rd annual Academy of Country Music Awards on Sunday (April 15), Brothers Osborne’s John and T.J. Osborne chatted with Billboard’s Kevan Kenney on the red carpet about their ACMAs wins, the Las Vegas shooting and their new song “Weed, Whiskey and Willie.”

Speaking of the two awards they already won — video of the year for “It Ain’t My Fault” and vocal duo of the year — John Osborne says that it is “insane,” joking that there “was a time where the duo category should have been called the Brooks & Dunn Award because they won it for like 90 years in a row.”

“But it’s cool that it’s gotten to a point now where it’s like a very competitive category and there’s amazing artists in there,” he continues. “It’s really eclectic, there’s a wide spectrum of artists. I know this sounds cliché, we’re grateful just to be nominated, and then to win is like a feeling that we can’t even describe.”

T.J. Osborne, meanwhile, reflects upon last year’s Last Vegas shooting that took place at the Route 91 Harvest music festival, telling Billboard that when he visits the city, he can still feel the tragedy in the air. “However, you don’t want that evil to win,” he says. “It’s like, well you gotta come here and we have to prevail, and also come back and keep a dialogue open about what happened that day and hopefully come up with some change that could prevent it in the future.”
