BSO Driver flips off, passenger tells deputy that smell of marijuana is mold

MACON, Ga. — The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office issued several citations to a driver after a failure to yield led law enforcement to discover marijuana in the suspect’s vehicle.

A sheriff’s office report states that a deputy attempted to make a traffic stop on Feb. 14 when the driver failed to yield and almost caused an accident involving the deputy’s vehicle.

The deputy activated their blue lights and siren, which the suspect ignored before continuing to drive onto I-75 southbound.

According to the report, the suspect raised his right hand with the middle finger extended while the deputy continued to follow behind with his lights and siren still activated. After a short chase, the driver stopped near Fire Station 11 close to Red Oak Dr.

The report states that the deputy could smell marijuana when he approached the suspect’s vehicle, and asked the passenger if there was anything illegal inside.

The passenger reportedly told the deputy that there was mold in the vehicle and that her husband, the driver, was just taking her to work. The deputy replied that what he was smelling was not mold and requested a K-9 unit.

The report states that the K-9 unit alerted on the passenger side door, where deputies discovered a plastic container with marijuana residue and a glass pipe with marijuana in it.

Deputies issued citations to 45-year-old Francis Henry Childs, III, for failure to yield, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle and possession of marijuana (less than one ounce).
