At tonight’s planning and zoning commission meeting for Burleigh County, medical marijuana manufacturing and distribution was on the agenda. The county just moved one step closer to medical marijuana being made available.
Any person or business looking grow or sell medical marijuana in Burleigh County has to apply and be granted a special use permit. The county is making sure it regulates the manufacturing or distributing centers to align with state law. To be granted the special use permit, the growing or selling center must be located in an agricultural, industrial, or commercial zoned district.
There are also a few design standards the county is setting up:
-must be a 6 foot tall perimeter fence surrounding the building
-must be 2,640 feet from any school, community center or church
-must be 500 feet from any neighborhood
-can’t be open before 8 am or after 7 pm
-must be well lit and have 24/7 surveillance cameras.
