A California man was arrested Monday after troopers found 30 pounds of marijuana in his car on Interstate 80, police said.
Senior Trooper Anthony Potesta stopped a black 2011 Dodge Durango around 1 p.m. Monday for speeding on I-80 in Porter County, Master Trooper Glen Fifield said in a news release.
The driver “appeared to be extremely nervous” and a Portage K-9 named Nakir was called to the scene, the release stated. Nakir alerted officers to a possible illegal substance in the car, and officers found 30 pounds of marijuana in two large duffel bags, Fifield said.
The 24-year-old driver was arrested and taken to Porter County Jail, the release states. Pending charges include dealing marijuana and possession of marijuana, according to the release.
The car was impounded, Fifled said.
Portage police and Gaston’s Towing assisted at the scene.
