A new hybrid greenhouse facility that is meant for cannabis production is under construction in Leduc County, Alta.
Aurora Cannabis is the company behind the 800,000 square foot production facility that is said to be larger than 16 football fields.
According to the company, this will be the most advanced, most automated and largest cannabis production facility in the world.
Aurora president Steve Dobler stated that the company’s objective is to come up with biggest production facility that comes with lowest production cost and the highest production quality. “Aurora Sky” is expected to have an annual mass production of 100,000 kilograms of marijuana.
The company believes that the facility is strategically located to easily access industrial infrastructure, courier services, transportation, water, power and gas.
According to the company, quality will be maintained since cultivation specialists have control over the environment when they use the closed-system, hybrid greenhouse concept of the facility. Aurora Cannabis already runs a 55,200 square foot facility in Mountain View County, Alta.
According to Dobler, they have been studying the best ways to get into mass production of marijuana for the past year. He added that the company expects that this project will meet all their expected goals and hence establish Aurora as a world leader and an innovator and in the marijuana business.
The project is expected to be finished by October 2017.
The value of the national recreational cannabis market is estimated to be around $10 billion according to a CIBC report that was released earlier this year.
Recreational marijuana is expected to be legalized by the federal government by spring next year. This means that Canadians will be able to puff a joint for pleasure without having to worry about the law enforcers.
This mammoth facility is a step in the right direction in the fight to legalize marijuana in the nation and marijuana proponents will certainly receive this news warmly.
