Marijuana Advent Calendar
VANCOUVER, British Columbia – It won’t be only chestnuts roasting on an open fire for Canadians buying marijuana advent calendars this holiday season. The Canadian medical marijuana company Coast to Coast Medicinals is saying Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays with an advent calendar filled with some jolly holly.
CTV News reported that the owner of the company, Lorilee Fedler, had the idea for the calendar after seeing a similar version in a liquor store. Each calendar is packaged with edible gingerbread men or cannabis flowers, with the option of an arrangement. They currently have 1500 people on their waiting list for the cheer-filled calendar and have already sold hundreds of them at $200 a pop. All orders are tailor-made and come in a 26-gram package for weed and a 24-item package for edibles.
Fedler was surprised by how popular the calendars are, even receiving international requests. People are loving the calendars and think they’re a great idea, however, the Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addiction disagrees. Spokesman Rebecca Jesseman thinks that the calendars pose health risks, saying “The biggest concern is it’s not a regulated product. We’re talking about a product that has not gone through quality testing, so there’s no way to be certain as to what’s in the product in terms of the levels of THC and other cannabinoids, so what the level of intoxication will be.” She added her concerns about possible pesticides and mold contamination.Recreational marijuana is expected to become legal in July of next year and Fedler hasn’t been bothered by law enforcement regarding the weed calendars. The company calls the calendar-treats an adult version of the Christmas tradition. Fedler said that “We just wanted something fun and different for adults.” And why not? ‘Tis the season to be jolly.
