A recent Canadian Forum poll has disclosed that 3 out of 10 citizens would like to access their cannabis from dispensaries.
The poll was as a result of the application made by Shoppers Drug Mart to distribute medical marijuana. It was meant to establish how many Canadians were in support of this move, in addition, the citizens were required to disclose where they would wish to purchase marijuana in general.
In October, Canada’s largest pharmacy chain, made an official application to become a licensed producer of medical marijuana. The drug retailer has stated that it would like to be an access point for patients and therefore it harbors no interest in marijuana cultivation.
According to the poll, 61 percent of Canadians approved the Shoppers actions.
A closer look at the poll results reveals that, at 30 per cent, specialized cannabis dispensaries were the most preferred option for Canadians. Coming in second were Pharmacies at 28 percent, followed by liquor stores at a distant18 percent.
This development has opened up a space that could bring in a few different outlets. The upcoming recreational market might choose to go with the liquor store option and it could easily co-exist in Canada together with dispensaries or the pharmacy chain, or both.
The percentage of Canadians who intend to buy legal weed will be another important statistic that will contribute to sales numbers. The findings of the poll suggest that more than 27 percent of Canadian voters will buy marijuana when it is legalized. The poll further reveals that another 17 percent of the voters are also “likely” to do so.
According to Forum Research President, Dr. Lorne Bozinoff, the general public opinion has shown that a lot of Canadians are as eager to see marijuana legalized as they are of about seeing medical marijuana in the Shoppers Drug Mart.
Dr. Bozinoff added that most Canadians prefer accessing their marijuana from dispensaries as opposed to liquor stores, the current retail distribution system and pharmacies.
The Marijuana Task Force will prepare a presentation for Prime Minister Trudeau in which they will break down the framework of how recreational marijuana will be incorporated into everyday Canadian lifestyle. This is expected to happen later on this month.
Canadians have made their voices heard and marijuana proponents from Canada and the rest of the world now wait to see how this will shape the usage of marijuana moving into the future.
