LAREDO, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at World Trade Bridge recently seized a significant amount of alleged marijuana valued at $186,000 hidden within a commercial shipment of limestone brick and clay articles.
“Our frontline officers working in the cargo environment maintained strict vigilance amid heavy pre-holiday truck traffic and seized a significant load of marijuana,” said Port Director Gregory Alvarez, Laredo Port of Entry. “Enforcement actions like these reaffirm the agency’s resolute commitment to border security while facilitating lawful trade.”
The seizure occurred on Tuesday, Nov. 21, when a CBP officer referred a 1993 International tractor hauling a commercial shipment of limestone bricks and clay articles for a non-intrusive inspection. Non-intrusive imaging system, canine and physical inspection by CBP officers resulted in the discovery of 743 packages allegedly containing 930.52 pounds of alleged marijuana hidden within the shipment. The marijuana has an estimated street value of $186,156.
CBP officers seized the narcotics. The case was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents for further investigation.
