CBP Officers Seize Marijuana Worth Over $1 Million at World Trade Bridge

LAREDO, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers recently seized a significant amount of alleged marijuana valued more than $1 million at the World Trade Bridge while conducting enforcement operations.

“This is definitely a significant seizure and I commend the CBP officers involved,” said Port Director Alberto Flores, Laredo Port of Entry. “This is a great example of the effectiveness of the layered enforcement inspection process implemented by our CBP officers.”

The seizure occurred at World Trade Bridge on Tuesday, Jan. 23, when a CBP officer referred a tractor trailer hauling a shipment of jalapeño peppers for a secondary inspection. A non-intrusive imaging system and canine inspection by CBP officers resulted in the discovery of 1,341 packages allegedly containing 5,000 pounds of alleged marijuana. The marijuana has an estimated street value of $1,000,182.

CBP officers seized the narcotics. The case was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents for further investigation.
