BIG BEND, Texas (Local 2/Fox 24) – The US Customs and Border Patrol in the Big Bend sector made two large marijuana seizures this week.
The first took place Thursday at the Sierra Blanca immigration checkpoint.
CPB officials say a U.S. citizen from Kansas arrived at the checkpoint in a pickup with an auxiliary fuel tank in the back.
A K9 team was alerted to the tank and agents reportedly located 200 pounds of marijuana.
The suspect was turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration in El Paso, according to the release.
The second occurred when agents in Van Horn noticed several people walking in the brush just after midnight.
CPB officials say the suspects ran from the area when they were spotted by agents but were later captured.
Nearby, agents located marijuana backpacks being carried by the suspects, according to the release.The suspects were identified only as illegal Mexican nationals who were turned over to the DEA in Alpine for further investigation.
