College student smokes marijuana, crashes ATV

NORTH BEND — A Wisconsin college student was arrested after smoking marijuana and causing a side-by-side ATV to flip end over end Saturday.

The Coos County Sheriff’s Office responded to Spinreel ATV following a report of the crash which happened at the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area earlier that day.

Deputies gave the 21-year-old ATV operator Cody Umentum a field sobriety test after noticing signs of impairment.

According to the Coos County Sheriff’s Office, Umentum admitted to having smoked marijuana earlier in the day.

After submitting to a Drug Recognition Evaluation, the evaluator determined that Umentum was under the influence of cannabis.

Umentum was arrested for driving under the influence of intoxicants and transported to the Coos County Jail.

The Coos County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind the public that while marijuana is legal to consume, it is illegal to drive under the influence of it, or any other intoxicant.
