Corrections officer finds synthetic marijuana in cabbage sent to inmate

OGDENSBURG — Officers at Riverview Correctional Facility discovered synthetic marijuana, also known as K2, concealed inside of a head of cabbage in a package mailed to an inmate last week.

According to a news release issued Wednesday by the state Correctional Officers and Police Benevolent Association, at about 1 p.m. on Feb. 13 at the medium-security prison, corrections officers found the contraband while X-raying incoming packages.

Upon inspection of the package, an officer noticed irregularities in the X-ray and opened the package. A rectangle-shaped hole had been cut out of the cabbage and two clear plastic bags containing 13 grams of K2 had been placed inside, the release stated.

“The drugs were placed in evidence. The inmate, whose name is not being released, is serving 3 to 6 years for burglary 3rd and robbery 1st. The investigation is ongoing,” the release states.
