YORK – York County has hired a new weed superintendent.
Following an executive session earlier this week, during which the commissioners discussed the candidates and the recommendation being made by Commissioner Kurt Bulgrin and Paul Buller, they voted in favor of hiring Mitch Huxoll, who is currently a resident of Shelton.
Commissioner Bulgrin said Huxoll was formerly the weed superintendent in Buffalo, Lincoln and Furnas Counties.
“We appreciated that he already has all the certifications and licenses that he needs, as well as extensive experience in this field of work,” Bulgrin said.
The county received six applications for the position, after Doug Deprez announced he would be retiring from his position as the York County Noxious Weed Superintendent. Buller and Bulgrin reviewed the applications, did interviews and then brought forward the candidate they felt was most qualified.
This position will remain full time, Bulgrin said. A few months ago, the commissioners toyed with the idea of making this a part-time position.
“This will stay a full-time job and in his downtime, he will assist with the roads department and the maintenance department at the courthouse,” Bulgrin explained. “We are looking forward to having him on board.”
Huxoll’s first day will be Tuesday, Aug. 7.
