Couple finds 65 pounds of marijuana in Amazon order

ORLANDO (WFTV) – You can get just about anything on Amazon, but one Florida couple never expected they would receive 65 pounds of marijuana after shopping on the site.

“We love amazon and do a lot of shopping on amazon,” the woman, who asked to not be identified for safety reasons, said.

A woman and her fiance needed to put some belongings in storage over the summer, so they ordered 27-gallon totes off of the convenience shopping site. But, when the packages arrived — they didn’t feel right.

“They were extremely heavy,” the woman said. “More heavy than you would think from ordering four empty bins.”

When they couple opened the boxes, they were hit with a strong odor and discovered, after sifting through layers of packaging, 65-pounds of marijuana.

They immediately called Orlando police.

“When the first officer got here she was in disbelief,” the couple said.

Police confiscated the pot and launched an investigation into the incident. The couple ordered the crates from a vendor called Warehouse Deals. The container was shipped by UPS from a facility in Massachusetts, weighing 93.5 pounds.

“We were still pretty fearful our home would be broken into and we didn’t sleep there for a few days,” the woman said.

The customers said after going back and forth with Amazon, mostly by email for more than a month, they never spoke to a supervisor.

Instead, they received a $150 gift card with the message “I am unable to do anything else at this time.”

The woman said she wanted an explanation and an apology for the incident.

“There was no concern for a customer’s safety,” the woman said. “I mean this could have turned into a worst case scenario.”
