Cultivation Classic 2018: Oregon’s Most Scientific Cannabis Cup

Cultivation Classic 2018 Oregon's Most Scientific Cannabis Cup

The Cultivation Classic 2018 is now accepting entries from cannabis producers.

Cultivation Classic ‐ Oregon’s only cannabis cup of its kind ‐ has opened its 2018 entry period. Cannabis producers who do not use mineral salt fertilizers or synthetic pesticides, herbicides or fungicides are invited to submit up to eight unique cultivars from the 2017‐18 harvest. Entries are judged in six categories by a panel of more than 75 judges, and winners are revealed on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at an awards ceremony at Revolution Hall. The event is produced by Willamette Week and partners Farma, Cascadia Labs, Phylos Bioscience, Resource Innovation Institute and Habu Health.

“Cultivation Classic is an extremely science‐focused, innovative competition,” says Dr. Adie Poe, co‐founder of Habu Health and 2017 keynote speaker. “All samples are extensively phenotyped, and the judging platform is evolving to compare subjective effects between judges.”

Winners of this cup are determined by judge average scores (weighted 90% of total value) and by a producer’s PowerScore TM (weighted 10%), courtesy of improved technology and calculations by Resource Innovation Institute. All entries are tested for terpene and cannabinoid pro iles by Cascadia Labs, and the winners in each category will be sequenced on Phylos Bioscience’s cannabis genome galaxy.

“Oregon growers should enter Cultivation Classic to see how they compare to other talented, organic cultivators,” says James Schwartz, founder and CEO of Cascade High Organics and winner of Cultivation Classic 2017’s Innovation Award. “All entries are evaluated by quali ied judges, tested by a credible lab for potency and terpenes, and analyzed for the farm’s carbon footprint ‐ truly looking at how green your farm is. It’s nice to be part of a fair competition against other like‐minded cultivators.”

Interested producers can read the 2018 competition guidelines and access the entry form here. The entry period closes February 16, 2018.
