A man who tried to leave Pitt-Greenville Airport with $28,000 and 3.5 ounces of marijuana in a suitcase was arrested Monday morning, according to the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office.

Fatar Weems was charged with intent to sell and deliver marijuana.

The Sheriff’s Office said Weems was planning to leave Greenville for Charlotte and then on to JFK Airport in New York City.

The TSA alerted the Sheriff’s Office just before 5 a.m.

Weems was arrested before his intended flight, and it was not delayed.

Weems told deputies the 3.5 ounces of marijuana were for “personal use.” He also said he earned the cash by creating beats for rappers.

The Sheriff’s Office said the money is indicative of drug trade.

Weems was detained and given a $10,000 bond, but he has now bonded out.
