ROMULUS, Mich. — Officials at Detroit Metropolitan Airport are working to wipe out a poisonous weed known as leafy spurge that turned up on airport property.
WDIV-TV reports the weed was recently found on airport land in Romulus by Wayne County Airport Authority wildlife biologists. Officials say employees who might come in contact with it were notified. The airport authority has hired a contractor to deal with the invasive weed.
Leafy spurge spreads by seed and extensive, creeping roots that can extend up to about 30 feet into the ground.
