MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A man is facing drug charges after police said they caught him selling marijuana out of a St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital bag.
37-year-old Eddie Brown is charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell.
Police were called to the area of Ford Rd. and Deerskin Dr. Sunday for a report of a group of men selling drugs.
Officers said there were five men standing around a vehicle when they arrived. One fled when he saw police.
Officers had what they called a casual encounter with Brown. They said they could smell marijuana while speaking with him.
Brown allegedly told them he and the other men had just finished smoking.
A black bag with ‘St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital’ emblazoned on it was hanging from Brown’s shoulder.
When police asked him what was inside of it, MPD said he stated, “I ain’t even gonna lie. It’s some dope in there.”
The bag was seized, and Brown was detained.
Police found a large clear plastic bag with eight individually wrapped bags inside with what appeared to be marijuana.
A scale with the word ‘digitz’ was found in the trunk of the vehicle at the scene. Brown said the scale belonged to him and told police he sometimes sells marijuana to his family and friends.
