Dude, who’s your florist Man says he thought he shipped flowers, not marijuana

A Shelton man could face drug charges after police intercepted a box that he tried to ship containing marijuana, according to Shelton Police Lt. Mike Fiola.

A local shipping company contacted police after a suspicious package was dropped off on Tuesday.

“The company expressed concern when they noticed a strong smell of marijuana emanating from the package,” Fiolo wrote in a news release.

Shelton Police obtained a search warrant to access the box’s contents. Inside they found 121 grams of processed marijuana.

The marijuana was confiscated and police put a copy of the search warrant in the box and shipped it to the intended recipient at an address in Starkville, Mississippi.

Then, Shelton Police Det. Dan Patton contacted the man who had attempted to send the package.

“The suspect explained they didn’t know it was marijuana, and thought they were just sending ‘flowers’ to a friend,” Fiola wrote. “Although the suspect admitted to being a marijuana smoker for over 15 years, they claimed they didn’t recognize the smell of marijuana when preparing the package for shipment because they thought it was simply decorative flowers.”

Shelton Police are investigating and charges are pending for intent to distribute marijuana illegally, Fiola wrote.
