Here is a sample of comments from readers on our story about marijuana going mainstream in New Jersey. The comments were culled from our online story chat and Facebook pages.
Brenda Bishop Decher: Yep, and ready for all the revenue and tax relief it will bring!
Jack Redstone: By the time NJ legislators set up a commission to oversee the implementation and regulation of legal pot and staff it with friends making nice salaries, benefits and most likely double dippers, oh and don’t forget the health help line, do you really think there will be any meaningful tax revenue left? This is NJ and the black hole of Trenton.
Steven Michael Fowler: If weed didn’t get you high, would tons of people still care this much to smoke it?
Carolyn Serebreny: There are different strains with different effects that help with different symptoms of disease, such as muscle spasms and pain. The medical varieties do not even contain THC.
Miquel Rogers: Not happening.
Gina Marie LaRocco Speranza: Not happening any time soon.
D’Nyce Burgos: Legalize it! Had this been legalized years ago we wouldn’t have so many people dying from cancer and other diseases. Weed is a natural herb and its oils are extremely beneficial. I am NOT a smoker but I am all for legalization as it will help many. Big Pharma has been committed to poisoning people for years with chemo and radiation. It’s time to offer an alternative to everyone and not just the terminally ill.
Eric Charles: The Asbury Park Press should keep reporting on this until it sinks in for people! Some people still think they should have a say over this and assert their baseless claims of it being dangerous in any way, shape or form. Funny enough, these are probably people who have never consumed marijuana and have no place casting judgment.
Philip J Henderson: Should have been legalized years ago. It would have prevented half of the heroin overdoses that we have been dealing with! But it’s OK. Trust a manmade drug over a natural plant from the earth. See how far that gets you!
Mark Secare: Can’t get in the way of all the heroin sales now.
