Gillibrand Calls for Medical Marijuana Provision

Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is part of a bi-partisan group of Senators calling on Congress to include language in the 2018 appropriations bill to prevent the Justice Department from interfering with the implementation of state medical marijuana laws. 29 states and the District of Columbia have some form of medical marijuana laws, but federal law still makes its use illegal in any form.

The provision has been included in every appropriations bill since 2014, but was recently blocked in the House. In June, Senator Gillibrand also reintroduced a bill that would allow Americans to access medical marijuana in states where it is legal without fear of federal prosecution.
