Girl Scouts Now Allowed to Deal Cookies Outside Dispensaries

Frequenters of social media have been seeing memes for years about mythical girl scouts with business acumen far ahead of their time setting up shop outside cannabis dispensaries to maximize revenue.

But how come more sales-driven Brownies didn’t bring their baked goods to the baked hoods? Well, apparently it wasn’t allowed — until now. Well, in Colorado and parts of California, at least.

Scouts were only allowed to post up with their goodies outside “family-oriented” businesses prior to the 2018 guideline modifications. Now, the young entrepreneurs may offer up their non-medicated edibles outside “adult-oriented” businesses as well. This means marijuana dispensaries, tattoo shops, and bars are all on the table now.

“[Potential cookie sale] sites are now all treated the same, and approval of those sites is contingent on whether they meet our guidelines and safety requirements,” Girl Scouts of Colorado council spokesperson AnneMarie Harper explained to The Denver Post. “Safety is the biggest concern.”

Harper said certain bars, dispensaries, coffee shops and tattoo parlors have already been approved.

While dispensaries haven’t been officially added to the approved list of cookie sale sites in other states, California chapters of the organization don’t seem to have a problem with it, either.

This dispensary in San Diego gave this future CEO some free advertising while likely also attracting additional foot traffic. Girl Scout Cookie day at the dispensary must be like pretzel day at Dunder Mifflin.

“Girls are selling cookies, and they and their parents pick out places where they can make good sales,” said Dana Allen, communications director of the Girl Scouts of Northern California. “The mum decided this was a place she was comfortable with her daughter being at. We’re not telling people where they can and can’t go if it’s a legitimate business.”

Cookies on the way out the dispensary door are just another unavoidable tax, really.

Because these magical cookies are scientifically-proven (nope) to reduce stress and increase happiness, it’s no wonder cookie season coincides with tax season, running from early Jan. to April. Each year, more than one million girl scouts move roughly 200 million boxes of pure joy, harvesting nearly $1 billion for the respective local chapters of the national organization. The cookie sales fund all sorts of community activities and projects for the scouts, so get out there and do some good today by picking up some munchies for a great cause.
