The city of Henderson has extended their delay on recreational marijuana for another 30 days.
The City Council voted to adopt a six-month delay on the sale of recreational marijuana. The moratorium which had been set to expire Aug. 7, was extended to Sept. 7.
Henderson City Council approved the extension of the delay to give city staff time to present regulations to the council at their next meeting. If the regulations are approved at the meeting on Sept. 5 then sales could begin as early as October or November.
Recreational marijuana sales in the first four days massed over $3 million and generated $500,000 in tax revenue. This delay could hurt tax revenue for the city. Before conducting any sales, recreational marijuana facilities will have to go through the privileged business license process and conditional use permit process, which include public hearings, city spokesman David Cherry said.
