Every two weeks, Christine Hernandez receives a package of medical marijuana at her door.
The Albany woman is a registered caregiver for five certified medical marijuana patients, including her brother, Kevin. She used to trek to an Albany dispensary run by Etain, one of 10 state-licensed medical marijuana companies, once a month, but now has the convenience of waiting at home for the delivery truck to arrive.
Hernandez is among some 100 Albany-area residents who receive medical marijuana deliveries as the services have grown statewide to cover patients in 15 counties who cannot make it to a brick-and-mortar retail dispensary.
It’s unclear how many of the state’s 30,000 medical marijuana patients receive home deliveries. But medical marijuana executives say it is not only popular in some areas, it is also growing.
“With home delivery, we are seeing the increase of sales,” said Corey Hewitt, director of Columbia Care New York. “We’ve more than doubled our sales since launching this program, so it’s an interesting read because the market is continuing to grow and we are continuing to grow in tandem with the market. I do see this being a very viable, successful program long-term.
