Husker receiver Keyshawn Johnson Jr. cited on suspicion of marijuana possession

Nebraska receiver Keyshawn Johnson Jr. was cited by UNL police on suspicion of possession of less than one ounce of marijuana and drug paraphernalia Friday afternoon.

A residence director contacted campus police after detecting possible drug use in a room in Selleck Residence Hall around 3:45 p.m. Friday, according to the report.

Johnson, 18, was the only student cited, said Sgt. Doug Petersen with university police.

Johnson enrolled at Nebraska in January and was one of five mid-year enrollees to participate in spring ball.

The highly touted receiver in NU’s 2017 recruiting class caught 157 passes for more than 2,300 yards and 20 touchdowns in three seasons at Calabasas High School in California. He was also listed among the top 50 receiver prospects in the nation by ESPN, Rivals.com and in the 247 composite rankings.

Johnson, whose father played 11 seasons in the NFL, is expected to be an immediate contributor for Nebraska, which acknowledged the incident in a statement but said it was still gathering information.

“Head coach Mike Riley and the athletics department are aware of the incident involving Keyshawn Johnson Jr.,” the statement read. “We will have no additional comment until we have all information regarding this matter.”
