Indoor Marijuana Growing Operation Busted Near High School

A father and his son are facing felony charges after an indoor marijuana growing operation was busted near the campus of Cleveland High School.

Friday night the father, Mark Steven Edwards, 59, of the 2700 block of Polenta Road, called Johnston County deputies alleging his son, Marshall Steven Edwards, 34,  who was staying in a camper behind his home, had threatened to kill him and also had access to a gun. The father allegedly told officers his son was growing marijuana in the camper.

Deputies arrived and spoke with the son, who reportedly told officers his father was also growing marijuana inside his home as well.

Sheriff’s Captain Jeff Caldwell said 3.95 pounds of marijuana was seized from the two men.

Both were charged with manufacturing marijuana, possession with intent to manufacture sell or deliver a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Marshall Edwards was wanted at the time of his arrested on a fugitive warrant from Florida for assault on a pregnant female. He was also wanted on an assault on a female warrant from Guilford County, NC. He was held without bond on the Florida fugitive warrant and $33,000 on the other charges.
