WELLINGTON-What started as a traffic stop for a broken taillight escalated into more serious charges last week for a 21-year-old Wellington man accused of smoking marijuana in front of an infant and storing a stash of the drug under the child’s car seat.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office arrested Tomaz King on Thursday on charges of marijuana possession under 20 grams and child neglect. King was released from the Palm Beach County Jail on Friday after posting $3,000 bail.
The incident took place at about 10:20 p.m. Thursday as deputies pulled over a Jeep at South Shore Boulevard and Big Blue Trace for a broken taillight and failing to stay in one lane.
A deputy approached the vehicle and detected the heavy odor of marijuana, according to a sheriff’s office arrest report. King was seated in the passenger seat. Deputies had King step out of the vehicle and took the infant and his car seat out.
While removing the car seat, deputies noted there was marijuana under the child and stuck to his clothing. King reportedly told deputies the marijuana may have accidentally fallen into the car seat while he removing marijuana from the dresser in his bedroom.
