LAS VEGAS (AP) — Authorities say a Las Vegas man burned his arm in an explosion while cooking marijuana to make “weed butter.”
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that Fire Department spokesman Tim Szymanski said Wednesday that the unidentified man was trying to heat a marijuana plant to extract concentrated THC to make the butter used in foods. His father was showing him how to do before the incident occurred Tuesday night at the man’s Las Vegas apartment.
Fire investigators believe the explosion might have occurred because the man used butane to speed up the process.
Szymanski said the man is expected to be hospitalized for about a week after suffering burns on his arm that account for about 18 percent of his body.
