Lemon Larry isn’t a stranger to most marijuana dispensaries on the west coast. In fact, I’m told that it is quite a staple strain for many customers in Orange County where it was born. Naturally, most strains out of Orange County, California, can be traced to one majorly horny baby-daddy, OG Kush. While OG Kush has produced countless strains throughout the years. Larry OG, like his parent strains (OG Kush and SFV OG), is a sativa dominant hybrid, and he lets you know that with one smoke.
Now, me being me, I tend not to read the directions before putting something together. It’s more fun that way. However, this was one of those times where Lemon Larry should have come with one of the IKEA “STOP, read this first, stupid” pamphlets. I say this because shortly after inhaling my first sample of this strain, the five-minute coughing fit that followed was reminiscent of the first time that I had ever smoked in my life. Did I get my point across? THIS STRAIN IS STRONG, DANK, AND BEST VAPORIZED.
Down to the bud. Lemon Larry boasts a lighter green color than most OG strains. The major surprise to me is that this was not a dry strain at all. The outside of the bud had so many dried trichomes on it that I thought that it had been dipped in sugar. When I broke the flower open, an earthy-pine scent is apparent (even from ten feet away). Sticky trichomes line the inside of the flower as well, making this a “thick smoke” strain. While it is a bit sticky, it does grind well I’ve found. Being more of a dank strain, the smoke produced is thick and dark brown. If you prefer to use a water pipe, such as moi, you will instantly notice the smoke sticking to the back of your throat as if the water couldn’t filter enough of the resin.
The effects are powerful and immediate. The best way that I can describe the effects were represented in the 2006 movie Beerfest. The scene where Erik Stolhanske drinks the whole bottle of Goldschlager and hears fireworks going off in his head…yea that. While I am a fan of smoking and going on a walkabout, this strain is best taken at home in front of a funny movie or contemplating the philosophy of cheeseburgers, or something of that nature.
Overall, Lemon Larry is a potent hybrid sativa. The euphoric, uplifting feeling is powerful and could be overwhelming for first timers. Even seasoned marijuana users find its effects are staggeringly strong.
