DES MOINES – Applications have been available for a month.
We reached out to the Iowa Department of Public Health and just 25 people have applied and received licenses to use medical marijuana.
Applications are available on the department’s website. The bill gives access to patients whom an Iowa-licensed physician has diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, cancer, multiple sclerosis, seizures, AIDS and HIV, Crohn’s disease or Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, as well as terminally ill patients with less than a year to live who have untreatable pain.
Right now, the Iowa Governor’s Office is communicating with the Department of Public Health about setting up the program. It could be months until Iowans can actually get their hands on medical marijuana.
