The sheer number of bizarre incidents in US politics lately could be overwhelming for iconic comedy TV show Saturday Night Live, which has been seen filming on the streets for its upcoming show.
The past week has seen the controversial sacking of FBI boss James Comey and the discovery of White House press secretary Sean Spicer reportedly hiding in the bushes to avoid the media.
SNL’s Melissa McCarthy was spotted on a Manhattan street riding her infamous White House podium on a Segway, in full Sean Spicer character.
McCarthy, who specialises in satirising neurotic characters, has mastered her impression of the troubled Mr Spicer.
Social media has been sizzling with jokes about Mr Spicer hiding in the bushes this week. One of the most popular was the classic gif of Homer Simpson backing away into a hedge, but this time, with Mr Spicer’s head photoshopped on top.
There was also the moment Donald Trump’s adviser Kellyanne Conway spoke to CNN’s Anderson Cooper about the FBI firing controversy.
Mr Cooper showed Ms Conway clips of Mr Trump praising ex-FBI boss Mr Comey for investigating Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server.
Ms Conway responded “thanks for the trip down memory lane”, to which Mr Cooper rolled his eyes. The moment soon became a viral gif on Twitter.
