Monday morning house fire leads to marijuana bust in Tyler

TYLER, Texas (KETK) – A Monday morning house fire lead to the discovery of a marijuana grow operation at a Tyler duplex.

Around 7:20 a.m., fire officials were called to a residence in the 1000 block of West 31st Street. There were reports of visible smoke.

Upon arrival the first unit reported light smoke coming from the duplex and made entry to find the mattress in the bedroom on fire.  The fire was quickly extinguished leaving moderate fire and smoke damage to the bedroom and light smoke damage throughout the unit.

But after further investigation, Tyler Police were also called in to investigate.

Tyler Police say they discovered 100 marijuana plants, special grow lights and items related to the operation.  Investigators are looking into the ownership of the grow operation for future prosecution.
