Officers investigating a report of an open door above Mel’s Diner found a large amount of marijuana, police said.
The discovery was made at the end of March. The owner, Melanie Lamperelli, 39, was arrested last week on a number of drug-related charges, police said. She told investigators that she was saving the marijuana for baking at a later time, police said.
After discovering the open door in the diner, on Route 163, officers went inside to check for intruders and found the marijuana, police said. The officers secured the building and obtained a search warrant to investigate further.
A police dog alerted officers to more marijuana in the area where the food is prepared at the dinner. All told, officers reported finding about eight pounds of marijuana.
