NYPD Dawn raid nets gun, crack cocaine, pills, 3 pounds of weed

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — An early morning raid in West Brighton resulted in the arrests of four suspects and the seizure of a loaded gun, crack cocaine, prescription pills and pounds of pot for sale, according to authorities.

Police armed with a search warrant entered the apartment of male suspects Junior Russell, 28, and Ockheim Bowers, 36, on Dongan Street around 6 a.m. on Friday, according to the criminal complaint and police.

Female suspects Moksha Samlal, 20, and Desimone Linwood, 21, both of Henderson Avenue in the West Brighton Houses, also were inside the apartment when officers arrived, authorities allege.

Russell and Samuel were in a bedroom where officers recovered a Taurus 9 mm model 709 Slim pistol with seven bullets in the magazine and 24 plastic bags of crack cocaine individually packaged for sale, according to the complaint.

Officers allegedly confiscated 65 tablets of oxycodone in an unlabeled pill bottle on a shelf and three pounds of marijuana in a cardboard shipping box on the floor of a bedroom where Bowers and Linwood were located, the complaint alleges.

All of the suspects are charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell.

Bowers and Linwood also are charged with criminal possession of marijuana and criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Russell and Samuel also are charged with criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a firearm.

The men both have a bond set at $50,000/$25,000 cash and are due in Criminal Court on Thursday, according to public records.

The women both are due in Criminal Court on Aug. 21. Linwood was released under court supervision and Samuel was released on her own recognizance, according to public records.
