Paraguay legalizes medical marijuana cultivation

Paraguay is poised to become the latest nation to reform its marijuana laws with the passage of a bill that would allow the country to begin importing cannabis seeds for cultivation and then government-controlled sale of medical products.

According to Reuters, President Horacio Cartes is likely to sign the bill, since it was supported by the country’s health ministry.

Previously, Paraguay had legalized the import of medical cannabis products, including MMJ oils that helped epileptic patients.

Patient advocates, however, pushed for this new update in the law to enable domestic production and, potentially, lower the price of MMJ goods.

Other nations in South America that have already legalized medical marijuana include Argentina, Chile, Colombia and Peru.
