Police Blotter Marijuana possession and counterfeit money

Marijuana found in vehicle in parking deck

On Nov. 22, two juveniles and two 17-year-old boys were found to be in possession of marijuana on the Intramural Fields Parking Deck.

The group was seen by police officers when they were in a car on the top floor of the parking deck around 9 p.m. that evening. When officers approached the vehicle to ensure everything was okay, they noticed the driver’s hands “shaking uncontrollably” and “an odor commonly associated with marijuana coming from the vehicle.”

The officers spoke with the driver and three passengers of the car individually about the smell. Each individual admitted there was approximately two grams of marijuana in the car and that the marijuana belonged to them.

The officers placed the two 17-year-old males under arrest and issued them each a citation for misdemeanor possession of marijuana. They were both transported to Clarke County Jail. The two juveniles were released to their parents.

Counterfeit money and football tickets

University police were alerted on Nov. 18 around 10 a.m. of fake tickets being sold by individual sellers outside of the Georgia v. Kentucky football game.

When police arrived on scene, they met with the individual who bought the two tickets for $150 and confirmed that both tickets were fake.

Later that same day, a report was filed about counterfeit money being used to purchase tickets from another individual seller.

According to the police report, the seller contacted law enforcement after he realized the $40 he received from a known individual were counterfeit money. Police said the two $20 bills were missing the security strip, have “discrepancies along the edges” and “bear the same serial number.”

Two UGA students charged for marijuana, alcohol and fake ID

Around midnight on Nov. 18, university police were dispatched to Mell Hall in reference to the odor of marijuana coming from a room that the resident assistant noticed.

When police arrived and asked to speak with the parties involved, they could “smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from the room.” Police asked to speak with both individuals in the room outside of the dorm. According to the report, police asked the two males if they had been smoking marijuana. One of the males said “maybe” in response to this question.

Police then left to obtain a search warrant for the room and returned to conduct a thorough investigative search of the source of the smell.

Police found a bag of marijuana, several empty alcoholic beverages, three pipes and a Georgia driver’s license for an individual over the age of 21 that was not either of the males involved with the case.

The males admitted to possession of the found objects and were placed under arrest. Both were charged with underage possession of alcohol, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug related objects. One of the males was charged with the possession of the fake ID.
