MARIJUANA IN THE MAIL: Battle Creek police are continuing their investigation after someone attempted to mail some marijuana. Officers were called at 6:48 p.m. Thursday to the Family Fare store at 45 E. Columbia Ave. after employees smelled what they thought was marijuana in a large envelope. Officers said a woman brought the envelope to the store, which provides a mail service, paid cash and asked to have it mailed to an address in Oregon. The woman left and employees said they believed they smelled marijuana. An officer was called and also detected the scent of marijuana. The envelope, which remained sealed, was seized and police said they are continuing their investigation.

FUNNY MONEY: Four $20 counterfeit bills were seized when a man, 58, attempted to exchange them at the Omni Credit Union, 220 E. Roosevelt Ave. Battle Creek police were called at 3:09 p.m. Friday after an employee found the bills were fake. The man said he had received the bills from the credit union several weeks earlier but credit union employees said the man also had made six ATM withdrawals at several locations. The bills were seized.
